"the cake" at a.r.t.a.e. GALLERY

For the Grand Opening, we made a "cake". Aaron R Thomas and Anne Ewen collaborated on a large painting on plexiglas which was then cut into smaller pieces and sold in sections. Our hope was that friends, couples, whoever would buy adjacent pieces and keep them as special momentos, like those little friendship necklaces with the charms that divide up into parts. Most of the pieces that were sold, however, were bought by crazed art lovers who bought 9 at a time to feed their own personal appetite.
These 9 were bought by a collector to hand out in the way that we'd hoped: Some staying with friends in California, Some going to the East Coast and to the South, Even one to be packed away and brought with a soldier returning to Iraq.

Clearly, it'll be a showcase. Aaron R. Thomas to open a.r.t.a.e. gallery October 11, 2007 Furniture designer Aaron R. Thomas, known for bent acrylic tables and chairs beloved by fans of Hollywood Regency and 1970s design, will open the gallery a.r.t.a.e. on Saturday. The new 4,000-square-foot space, a collaboration with artist Anne Ewen, is not only a showcase for pieces such as the Waterfall table ($1,825), shown here with the new silk-screened Antiquities umbrella holder ($380), but also a venue for Thomas and Ewen to exhibit their ethereal abstract paintings. Grand Opening This Saturday

We had our sneak peak last night at the Old Vine Cafe and all of our work setting up the cafe as well as the upstairs patio were rivaled with the beautiful spread of delectable food and tray passed hors d'eouvres put on by Brandon and Mark from the Old Vine. We are now looking ahead to our Grand Opening Celebration on this upcoming Saturday which will feature even more art, acrylic furniture, and sculpture than we were able to show at the sneak peak.
